Wellbeing and the healing that facilitates it

In December of 2012, after trying out a host of healing modalities to nuke the childhood emotional trauma that just wouldn't budge, I stumbled across Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and thought I'd give it a try. Although I didn't really understand how it worked - still don't for that matter, but I can attest that it certainly does - it just felt right. I can't really explain my reasoning any further, but I can safely say that it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

As today is the UN International Day of Happiness, I have spent more time than usual pondering my favourite subject - happiness. Still Mentally Well on World Mental Health Day

As today is World Mental Health Day, I thought I should do my bit and blog about it; as I sat down to write, however, my mind went blank. The pain, agony and despair that were my constant companions are now gone, and as I sat there tapping my stylus on my iPad hoping for inspiration, I had a little eureka moment. I realised that my former companions provided a lot of the motivation for my writing.

Breathing the body with the inimitable Ajahn Sucitto

Yesterday, I attended yet another terrific London Insight event; 'Breathing the body' was a day of meditation with Ajahn Sucitto, the very down-to-earth, funny and personable abbot of Cittaviveka, Chithurst Buddhist Monastery. The teaching took an approach to mindfulness of breathing meditation that is very different to how it is usually taught. It was a much more holistic, dynamic and embodied experience, very accessible for Westerners and not at all conceptual or esoteric. I expect that if Buddhism and Qi Gong were to marry and have offspring, this would be the result.

Anger and Hatred meet Compassion and Forgiveness

People find it hard to believe that I just can't get really angry, feel hatred or hold grudges, and even I have wondered why this is so. Compassion and forgiveness are indeed contributing factors, and I practice these in both meditation and daily life, but it seems that there has been a deeper internal shift that is allowing me to be so accepting.

Last weekend, the inimitable Sharon Salzberg led a 2 day retreat on Compassion; I have long been her 'distance learning student', courtesy of audiobooks, dharma podcasts and suchlike, but these can never replicate the dynamic and interactive nature of a retreat.
